With their superior ʜᴜɴᴛing sᴋɪʟʟs and the happy coexistence of their colleagues, lions are among the animals that are compared to a sort of king of the jungle. Lions can ʜᴜɴᴛ in groups or on their own. In order to drive the target animal into the lionesses hidden in the bush downwind, male ʜᴜɴᴛers typically approach the target prey from upwind. Lions are slower than the majority of their prey, hence they mainly rely on sᴜʀᴘʀɪsᴇ when ʜᴜɴᴛing.
Before charging, they will try to get within 30 meters of their target. If the initial ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ is unsuccessful, they will not pursue their prey very far since they lack the desire for a protracted chase.
The animals are searching for their own water to acclimate to the African sun. Most of the zebras were making their way toward the water source while being unaware of the ambush lions’ presence. When the lions suddenly charged forward at rapid speed as they slowly drew ᴄʟᴏsᴇr, it caught all off guard.
Unluckily, the lions pursued a zebra that split away from the herd. The remaining lions also joined the ʜᴜɴᴛ, and each had a different impact on the ʜᴜɴᴛ as it attempted to bring down its prey. After a difficult ʜᴜɴᴛ and several days of hunger, they were able to finally enjoy the feast of the flesh.
