This incredible scene unfolds when 3 hungry birds and a crocodile fight over 1 fish! Who will get away with this nutrient-rich prize? This sighting played out in Kruger National Park.
African fish eagles are incredible hunters, using their specialized eyes to spot food from high up above while soaring in the skies. Herons and storks, on the other hand, like to fish for their food by wading and forging with their tactile bills. This stork however was clever and stole a heron’s meal after the poor bird had just fought off a fish eagle, not to mention the ever-present threat of a crocodile nearby.
Nombekana’s safari guide – Rodney was fortunate to witness and share this moment with guests and tells LatestSightings.com the story:
“We decided to park near a waterhole to watch animals as they come to drink. I had already had an amazing day with my client, after many days of incredible sightings in the park.”“I decided to visit one of my favorite spots in the park – not expecting anything radical really. Suddenly a goliath heron caught a fish and what happened next was nothing short of incredible. Thankfully, I decided to record the whole time.”
“Before we knew it, a fish eagle challenged the heron for the fish. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. While these 2 birds argued about who’s getting the food, a saddle-billed stork joined the scene and took off with the fish.”
“While trying to soften and break down from the fish, 2 crocodiles moved closer to the stork – but it noticed and managed to get away with its stolen meal.”
Animals truly are incredible and never cease to amaze and surprise us. When you least expect it – something extraordinary happens. Mother Nature really always has something up her sleeve!
