Meet Thuli Mnisi, an experienced field guide, and her excited guests, Cassie Yeager and her companions from the USA. Little did they know, this day would become an unforgettable adventure.
Thuli Mnisi: “There was a report of a leopard sighting earlier on the H11. My guests had never seen a leopard before, so we set out with high hopes. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find it. But I decided to take a different route, hoping for a stroke of luck.”
On the junction of the S1 and S65, Thuli spots a family of playful warthogs. Oblivious to the impending danger, they frolic around, unaware of the leopard lurking in the shadows.
Thuli Mnisi: “We stopped to take some photos, completely unaware of what was about to unfold. And then, it happened…”
Thuli Mnisi: “Leopard! Leopard!”
Thuli Mnisi: “In the blink of an eye, the leopard snatched one of the piglets, delivering a swift and powerful bite to its head. Instant death. But the leopard wasn’t satisfied. It chased after the second piglet, determined to make it a double feast.”
Thuli Mnisi: “After an unsuccessful chase, the leopard returned to its hard-earned meal. We watched in awe as it dragged the piglet under the marula tree and began to feast. My guests couldn’t believe their eyes. It was their first time in Africa, and they had witnessed the extraordinary.”
Leopards, elusive and solitary hunters, are known for their stealth and cunning. This sighting was a rare and unforgettable moment, showcasing the raw power and grace of these magnificent creatures.”
Thuli Mnisi: “Sightings of leopards are generally rare, but this encounter was even more special. Not just because it was a leopard, but because it was a triumph for both the leopard and my guests. It goes to show that sometimes, stopping to appreciate the wonders of nature can lead to the most extraordinary moments.”
