The incident happened on an empty road in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand state, India. In the clip, a leopard is breaking into a residential area and then quietly approaching a sleeping dog by the roadside. The dog is completely unaware of the danger that is right there for him.
In the blink of an eye, the hunter grabbed his prey by the neck and ran towards the nearby forest. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Leopards (Panthera pardus) are carnivores of the cat family distributed mainly in Africa and Asia. They usually live and hunt alone. Their prey includes antelopes, primates, deer, wild boars, rabbits and many other animals. With their camouflage and hiding habits, they can get close to residential areas without being detected.
Due to the shrinking natural habitat, leopards entering residential areas to feed are not too rare in India.
